Procurement

1. Purpose

The "Procurement" form helps you calculate the environmental impact associated with the transportation of goods and materials purchased by your company. This includes the impact of both incoming deliveries and any transportation related to procuring materials using your own vehicles.

2. Entering Your Procurement Data

  • Scope: Choose whether you want to calculate the impact for the calendar year or a specific month.
  • Year: Select the year for which you want to calculate the procurement impact.
  • Month (if applicable): If you chose "Month" in the "Scope" field, select the specific month.
  • How do you receive goods?
    • Select "Own vehicles" if you use your own vehicles to transport purchased goods and materials.
    • Select "Delivery service" if you receive goods via external delivery services.

3. Own Vehicles Deliveries (if applicable)

If you selected "Own vehicles," you'll need to provide details about the modes of transport used and the distances travelled to procure materials:

  • Modes of transport and distance:
    • Click "+ Add New" to add a row for each mode of transport used.
    • Select the mode of transport from the dropdown list (e.g., Van, Truck, Car).
    • Enter the total distance travelled in kilometers (km) for that mode of transport.

4. Materials

This section focuses on the impact of transporting materials, specifically considering pallet usage:

  • Please fill in how many pallets of materials you have ordered for the respective year, considering how full they were.
    • Enter the number of pallets ordered with different fill levels (25%, 50%, 75%, 100%). This helps estimate the overall volume and weight of materials transported, contributing to a more accurate impact calculation.

5. How the Calculation Works

The tool uses the entered data about modes of transport, distances, and pallet quantities, along with emission factors associated with each mode of transport and material type, to calculate the total CO2 emissions related to procurement. The impact is calculated in kilograms of CO2 equivalent (kg CO2-eq).

6. Understanding the Results

  • Impact (kg CO2-eq): This column displays the calculated environmental impact for each mode of transport and material type in kilograms of CO2 equivalent.
  • Impact share (%): This column shows the percentage contribution of each transport mode and material type to the total procurement impact.

7. What Happens Next?

Once you've entered all the necessary data, click "Submit." The tool will automatically calculate the total impact of procurement and display it at the bottom of the form. This data will be incorporated into your overall environmental footprint report, accessible through the "Results Dashboard." You can then use this information to identify areas for improvement, such as optimizing transportation routes, utilizing more fuel-efficient vehicles, or consolidating orders to reduce transport frequency.
