Gas Consumption

1. Purpose

The "Gas Consumption" form helps you calculate the environmental impact associated with your company's gas usage. This includes gas used for heating, hot water, and any other gas-powered processes.

2. Entering Your Gas Consumption Data

  • Scope: Choose whether you want to calculate the impact for the calendar year or a specific month.
  • Year: Select the year for which you want to calculate the gas consumption impact.
  • Month (if applicable): If you chose "Month" in the "Scope" field, select the specific month.
  • Data (m³): For each gas source listed, enter the total cubic meters (m³) of gas consumed from that source. The sources include:
    • Natural Gas: Gas extracted from natural reserves.
    • Biogas: Gas produced from the breakdown of organic matter.

3. How the Calculation Works

The tool uses the entered cubic meter data for each source and factors in emission data associated with the extraction, processing, and combustion of those gas sources to calculate the total CO2 emissions. The impact is calculated in kilograms of CO2 equivalent (kg CO2-eq).

4. Understanding the Results

  • Impact (kg CO2-eq): This column displays the calculated environmental impact for each gas source in kilograms of CO2 equivalent.
  • Share (%): This column shows the percentage contribution of each gas source to the total gas consumption impact. This helps you identify if there are significant differences in the impact of your gas sources.

5. What Happens Next?

Once you've entered all the necessary data, the tool will automatically calculate the total impact of gas consumption and display it on the right side of the form. This data will be incorporated into your overall environmental footprint report, accessible through the "Results Dashboard." You can then use this information to identify areas for improvement, such as increasing the use of biogas, exploring alternative energy sources, or implementing energy efficiency measures to reduce gas consumption.
