Electricity Consumption
1. Purpose
The "Electricity Consumption" form allows you to
calculate the environmental impact associated with your company's electricity
usage. This includes electricity used for lighting, heating, powering
equipment, and charging electric vehicles (if applicable).
2. Entering Your Electricity Data
- Scope:
Choose whether you want to calculate the impact for the calendar year or a
specific month.
- Year:
Select the year for which you want to calculate the electricity
consumption impact.
- Month
(if applicable): If you chose "Month" in the
"Scope" field, select the specific month.
- Data
(kWh): For each electricity source listed, enter the total
kilowatt-hours (kWh) consumed from that source. Be as accurate as possible
to ensure precise impact calculations. The sources include:
- Grid:
Electricity from the public power grid.
- Biomass:
Electricity generated from organic matter.
- Biogas:
Electricity generated from the breakdown of organic matter in the absence
of oxygen.
- Solar:
Electricity generated from solar panels.
- Hydropower:
Electricity generated from the movement of water.
- Wind:
Electricity generated from wind turbines.
- Electric
Car:
- Indicate
whether you own an electric car and charge it at your company. This
information is used to calculate the impact of electric vehicle charging
on your overall electricity consumption.
3. How the Calculation Works
The tool uses the entered kWh data for each source and
factors in emission data associated with the generation of electricity from
those sources to calculate the total CO2 emissions. The impact is calculated in
kilograms of CO2 equivalent (kg CO2-eq).
4. Understanding the Results
- Impact
(kg CO2-eq): This column displays the calculated environmental impact
for each electricity source in kilograms of CO2 equivalent.
- Share
(%): This column shows the percentage contribution of each electricity
source to the total electricity consumption impact. This helps you
identify the most significant sources of emissions related to your
electricity use.
5. What Happens Next?
Once you've entered all the necessary data, the tool will
automatically calculate the total impact of electricity consumption and display
it on the right side of the form. This data will be incorporated into your
overall environmental footprint report, accessible through the "Results
Dashboard." You can then use this information to identify areas for
improvement, such as increasing the use of renewable energy sources or
implementing energy efficiency measures to reduce consumption.
